Mike & our youngest Georgia-Kate
My name is Bonnie McFerrin and I'm a Scent Blocker Lady from the Lone Star State. I'm most likely not much different from many of you ladies who juggle family, friends, work and a hobby we all love...hunting! Raised in Texas, I live in Kingwood with my husband Mike (also a big hunter) and our three children, Christian, MaKenna and Georgia-Kate. Mike and I are a "hunting couple" and Drury Outdoors Team Members. We have been hunting together for ten years and filming our hunts since 2003.
This summer has proven to be a typical Texas summer...it's hot! Despite the heat, we have managed to travel to our lease in south Texas and begin preparation for deer season. Some might argue it's a bit early to be thinking about whitetail deer, but around the McFerrin house deer season is always on our minds. Late May early June is the time of year when my husband, Mike, likes to start working on food plots. He enjoys getting on his tractor with one of the kids in tow, and begins to prepare the ground for our fall planting. Over the years, we have been asked by fellow hunters how we are able to harvest mature bucks on our free-ranging hunting property. The answer lies in Mike's strict management plan and much of that includes time on the tractor. He really enjoys being in the outdoors preparing for deer season, and I am always happy watching him work because I know it's "therapy" for him. As crazy as this might sound, I like to "spruce up" the house before deer season ramps up. It seems like every year after turkey season ends; I take a good look around and realize the house needs a good cleaning. All of our hunting gear needs to be re-organized and put in its place. We seem to accumulate piles of Scent Blocker gear, Drury Outdoors caps & shirts, and a lot of other hunting accessories. Throughout the year it starts to pile up and before I know it- it's a mess! On our most recent trip down south we took the kids out riding around and scouted the property. They love to load up in the Jeep and look for deer. We saw a few bucks in velvet, does, javelina, road runners, turkeys and hogs. Hunting season is a few months away and we are getting pumped!
The first weekend in June, Mike & I traveled t0 Las Vegas and met up with Mark & Tracy Drury and other Drury Team Members. I can't remember the last time the two of us took a trip where we weren't hunting and we had a blast! It was so nice to be with fellow hunters in a different setting. We enjoyed the restaurants, shows, all that Vegas has to offer and of course,we talked about hunting.
So far my summer has been relaxing and enjoyable. I have spent much needed "down time" with my kids. My husband and I enjoyed ourselves on a weekend get-a-away to Las Vegas and we've traveled to our lease as a family to prepare for deer season. Not much more this hunting gal could ask for... I'll be the first to say...I am blessed!
